Villa Cipriani nestles like a graceful swan, in the heart of the picture-perfect, prosperous town of Asolo. This charming hill town became our home from home in 2017 and it has given us immense pleasure introducing her to clients, friends and journalists alike. Every single one of them has waxed lyrical on their return. Originally owned by the poet Robert Browning, then the Guinness family it is now beautifully run by Sigrid Zanetti who has returned it to its former glory.
There are 30 rooms, our favourites are the junior suites with the private terraces overlooking the surrounding hills and valley. The gardens are perfect for sitting quietly with a good book, having lunch at the Rosmarino bar below or relaxing by the pool on the lower terrace.
Who would we send there? Well, the joy of being able to walk to the village piazza for a cappuccino at the immensely civilised Bar Centrale, or if the mood takes you a couple of cocktails and a dance at Henry’s Bar appeals to all generations including teenagers. Well behaved children only add to the already familial atmosphere at the hotel but wouldn’t prevent us recommending it to a couple on their honeymoon. Sports lovers are spoilt for choice with the world famous cycling routes as well as stunning walks (runs) in the Asoline hills. Good food and really superb wines and of course Grappa (the town of Bassano del Grappa is a short drive) are within easy reach. Finally for culture, Palladio built some of his finest masterpieces in the Veneto including the Villa Barbaro at nearby Maser where we arrange after hours tours with the owners or for lovers of Modernism you have the Carlo Scarpa tomb at Briol and Canova’s scultpture extravaganza at his nearby hometown of Possignano.
The verb ‘asolare’ means to pass the time in an agreeable, purposeless way. Need we say more?
