The stylish Portrait Roma was the first Lungarno Hotel project outside Florence. Location-wise it doesn’t get better than this, just off the famous Via Condotti in the heart of Rome and just a few yards from the Spanish Steps. Its inconspicuous location above the Ferragamo store gives this boutique hotel the intimate feel of an Italian townhouse, with the distinctive Ferragamo touch prevalent throughout, and both public spaces and bedrooms displaying a classic combination of contemporary and old-fashioned elegance.
There are only 14 studios and suites in total, each of them spacious and luxurious with huge beds, modern bathrooms, and well equipped with high-tech modern features including plasma TVs and internet. Some have their own private balconies and terraces, our favourite being the Penthouse suite on the top floor with its own private gym and vast terrace overlooking the domes and palazzos of the historical city centre.
One of the highlights of staying at Portrait Roma is the fabulous roof top terrace on the seventh floor, with breathtaking views from Trinità dei Monti right across the whole of the Eternal City. It’s the perfect place for an early evening aperitivo.
Public spaces are very limited with a tiny reception area and no restaurant, so breakfast is served in your room. However we found that this added to the discreet, exclusive and intimate atmosphere of the hotel. The high level of comfort along with impeccable service make it one of our favourite boutique hotels in the city, and the staff will no doubt go out of their way to help you. Our tip is to request one of the rooms facing Via Condotti with great views of the Spanish Steps.
