Overlooking the charming piazza Sant’Anastasia, the 13th-century Hotel due Torri is the oldest and finest hotel in Verona. Goethe and Mozart both slept here and would feel just at home today. Ideally situated within a few minutes’ walk from the Roman Arena, it is the perfect place for a long weekend at the opera.

The mood is old-fashioned and respectful. Bedrooms are all a good size, if a little generic, but the location really is unbeatable, as is the service. Choose the bedrooms on the fourth and fifth floor overlooking the piazza, rather than those overlooking the 1960s internal courtyard.
