Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco is a truly special and unique estate within the UNESCO-protected Val d’Orcia and in the heart of Brunello winemaking land.
The estate spans some 5,000 acres and has 23 spacious suites and 11 villas. The idyllic 18th-century Borgo at the heart of the estate plays host to the suites whilst the villas are dotted in and around the village, allowing guests to choose their level of privacy. Founded by Massimo and Chiara Ferragamo of the world famous Florentine shoemaking family, Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco’s suites and villas all share the same exceptionally high standard of luxury and comfort with stone fireplaces, lovingly stocked bookcases and the most comfortable bespoke beds. Our favourite room is one of the three huge CdB suites with its discreet private entrance and vast terrace which looks out over the staggeringly beautiful moonscape of the Val d’Orcia.
A timeless sense of style and understated chic can be found in the smallest of details from the hand-stitched leather key rings to the domino and backgammon sets specially created by Renzo Romagnoli.
The glorious heated infinity pool may be enough for most of us who just want to sit and absorb the view, but for those looking for a little more to do there is La Canonica cooking school, the Spa, a fitness centre, tennis courts and a fantastic private 18-hole golf course, for which guests can apply for an exclusive membership. The estate itself is vast and offers plenty of opportunity for walks, picnics and, depending on the season, hunting for truffles through the forests, olive groves, vineyards and rolling fields. The wine produced on the estate is considered some of the finest Brunello di Montalcino and guests can enjoy a tour followed by a tasting in the state-of-the-art winery. A visit to the La Bottega shop, located in the Borgo and stocked with divine products to take home, is a must. Whilst guests wishing to explore a little further afield can be in Siena in less than an hour and Florence can be enjoyed as a day trip.
The estate features two restaurants: the charming Osteria La Canonica which is rustic yet refined and the elegant Ristorante Campo del Drago which delivers a sophisticated blend of Italian cuisine. Both restaurants use produce from the enchanting organic vegetable and fruit garden.
There is absolutely no doubt that Rosewood Castiglion del Bosco truly is a very special place.
